Meeting Info:
You don't have to be an artist, just be interested in getting together with people from the Colfax, WA area. Young or old, everyone is welcome!! The Arts Council meets the third Tuesday of each month, unless moved due to a holiday. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm and are held at the Whitman County Library, Colfax Branch, 120 S. Main Street in Colfax, Washington.
Colfax Arts Commission Mission:
To increase awareness and enjoyment of the arts in Colfax.
To promote the visual, performing, and literary arts of Colfax.
To create venues for local artists and arts groups.
To coordinate opportunities for the community to experience a variety of artistic media and hone artistic skills.

Margaret J. Miller was the featured guest of Meet the Artist on September 9, 2010.
Margaret J. Miller, renowned quilt maker, author, and teacher from
Bremerton, WA, was the Colfax Arts Council’s first “Meet the Artist” in the
fourth season of this popular event. Miller kicked off the return of the
Meet the Artist series -suspended for the past year during the Colfax library’s renovation- Thursday, September 9 at 7:00 pm at the Colfax Library.

Margaret was in Colfax to teach two weekend workshops sponsored by The Quilted Moose of Colfax. “We are so excited that Margaret agreed to come a day early to be our featured artist,” said Debi Anderson, Colfax Arts Council president. “It will be a rare treat to have such a well-known quilter with us.”

explained Miller. “So when I heard that this would be an opportunity to help celebrate a renewed library, I was thrilled to participate.”

Because the Colfax branch of the Whitman County Library will be under construction for a major remodel this fall/winter, the Meet the Artist series will be curtailed until the remodel is complete. Please check back here for updates and info throughout the winter.

Banner competition will go on as usual, with new winning entries judged and hung from the light poles of Main Street, Colfax. The banners for 2010 are hanging on Main now, and previous year's entries may hang on Mill Street's light poles soon.
2010 is upon us!! Renovations to the library are under way.
It is a brand new year on the Palouse. Spring is right around the corner and the fields will start showing green soon. This has been an unusually mild winter for the Palouse, and many changes have been taking place.

Construction on the remodel of the Colfax Branch of the Whitman County Library is moving along.

Also, several new businesses - a resaurant, a quilt shop, a sign shop - have come to Main Street, Colfax. Be sure to check them out.

Meet the Artist on May 7, 2009 at the Whitman County Library on Main Street we met the artists Lori Hay and Ida Clausen. They are both sculpters who weld found metal from old farm machinery into lovely and unique works. They chatted with us about their art, had some work on display, and shared insight on their creative processes. You can visit Lori's website and see more of her work at lorihay.smxus.com. Meet the Artist on April 2, 2009 at the Whitman County Library on Main Street. We met Betty Jo Fitzgerald. She is a painter and print maker who specializes in water media. She divides her creative work schedule between her 2 studios, one in Olympia and one here in Colfax. She chatted with us about her lively and colorful art and her creative process. Colfax Hangs It Up: Part 2
Meet the Artist on March 5, 2009 with the Colfax Arts Council at the Whitman County Library on Main Street was a reception for the 12 banner artists whose work is now hanging from the lamp posts of downtown Colfax. The banner displayed at right, is titled: Ol Faithfull entered by Brianna Reynolds, in the YOUTH catagory.

Meet The Artist :: February, 2009

On Thursday, February 5, 2009 the Colfax Arts Council's Meet the Artist event took place at the Whitman County Library on Main Street. We "Met" costume designer Carole Urquhart. She discussed her work, showing images of stage plays with characters dressed in her creations. The image at right, is from the stage play: A Flea In Her Ear a farce.

Meet The Artist :: November, 2008
On Thursday, November 6, 2008 the Colfax Arts Council's Meet the Artist event took place at the Whitman County Library on Main Street. We "Met" Dale Forrey and vocalists from the Tapestry Women's Choir. They discussed their process and talked about the original composition they have commissioned.

Meet The Artist events begin again for Fall 2008
On Thursday, October 2, 2008 the Colfax Arts Council's first Meet the Artist event, for Fall 2008 took place at the Whitman County Library on Main Street. We had the pleasure of "Meeting" Roberta M. Tiemann, NWWS, MTWS, MoWS Watercolor Artist. She showed us a tiny fraction of her many fabulous paintings and discuss her work with us. You can visit her website at users.colfax.com/rtieman

Craig Whitcomb works primarily in pastels, watercolor and acrylic. His work reflects his travel experiences and regional interests in people and landscapes. He has studied art in Europe and Asia, has completed workshops with regional artists and has taught art classes. Craig belongs to the Spokane Watercolor Society, Palouse Watercolor Socius, Snake River Showcase and is associated with the Valley Art Center in Clarkston. He is a retired educator and a native to the region. Craig recently joined the resident artists at the Dahmen Barn, working with the Snake River Showcase Cooperative.
