Mural Project :: 2006

One of the many project ideas of the Colfax Arts Council has been to paint murals where appropriate, on the open walls of the old buildings in the historic district of downtown Colfax, Washington. The finished design for this mural was the brainchild of Dick Gebhardt, a member of the Colfax Arts Council. The finished image is of the very early days of Colfax as a tiny river settlement on the western frontier. Many people took part in painting this mural, but as you will see from the slide show, most of the work was accomplished by MaryAnn Taylor, Debi Anderson, Bill Reynolds and of course Dick. The slide show captures only the first 3 days of painting, but there was a good full day of measuring and marking the wall before the painting began. It is amazing that they got so much done in just those 4 days! The mural is completed now and is a fabulous feature on Main Street. Stop and take a look sometime, on your way through town.

Please note: the slide show will appear in a remote pop-up window. When you roll over the large slide image, you will see a caption for that image. When you roll over a slide thumbnail, you will see a caption for that thumbnail. Click on a thumbnail and it will appear as the larger image. Also, this entire site displays best with a monitor resolution setting of at least 1024 x 768.

If you have thoughts and ideas for future murals, come to an Arts Council meeting. You don't have to be an artist, just be interested in getting together with people from the Colfax, WA area. Young or old, everyone is welcome!! The Arts Council meets the third Tuesday of each month, unless moved due to a holiday. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm and are held at the Whitman County Library, Colfax Branch, 120 S. Main Street in Colfax, Washington. We would love to hear from you and would be glad to have you as a member!
