Emily Adams: Haunting
Whitman County Library, co-sponsor of the banner project, has hosted
the artists reception in the past. However, since construction is underway
at library headquarters, the reception will be in the Fellowship Hall of the
Baptist Church on Mill Street at 7 p.m. March 4, Anderson said. Prints of
the banner paintings will be available at the reception and a slide show of
the banners will accompany introduction of the artists. The Peoples
Choice will be announced and awards presented.
A large jar, which has previously been placed at the library, will be
available for Peoples Choice donations at City Hall this year. Residents
are reminded that the Peoples Choice Award is made up of donations of money, art supplies and other amusing items. Individuals, businesses and
organizations are encouraged to support the local artists by donating to the award.

The 2010 HArt of the Palouse banner paintings were hung Sunday,
February 21, in the central blocks of Colfax's Main Street, according to Debi
Anderson, president of Colfax Arts Council, sponsor of the annual event.
We encourage everyone to enjoy the colorful new exhibit of banners then
vote for their favorite adult and youth banners for the Peoples Choice
Awards, Anderson said.
As in past years, ballots with pictures of all the 2010 banners have
been prepared and will be available in a number of downtown locations this
week. The public may vote for a banner from both the adult and the youth
divisions and place their ballots in the attached paint cans. Votes may be
cast through March 4, including at the opening of the reception for the 2010
artists.
Debi Anderson: Cowboyin' on the Palouse
The Peoples Choice Award is split between the adult and youth winner. So we always hope for a good, hefty prize that will reward both. The
Arts Council will put in some seed money, but our finances are pretty tapped by
the expenses of running the program - the cost of banners, hangers, making
prints and copies, and that kind of thing, Anderson said.
We really appreciate the community's support for the award.
Artists for the eleven 2010 banners are Craig Whitcomb of Lewiston,
Sarah Moore of Pullman, and Jim Fitzgerald of both Olympia and Colfax; Kelan
Becker and Briana Reynolds, youth division, Colfax; and Mae Claypool,
Jerry Jones, Lori Unger, Debi Anderson, Dick Gebhardt and the team of Emily
Adams and Hannah Walker, all from Colfax.
The panel that juried the entries
included Kim DeHart, Chamber president, and Colfax artists Bill Reynolds and
Tracy Randall.
